CaseStack Awarded “Top Green Provider” for 2018 by Food Logistics
CaseStack has been named in Food Logistics magazine’s 2018 Top Green Providers list. This annual list offers logistics professionals a guide to the providers, manufacturers and software technology companies that have found new ways to promote sustainability throughout their operations and those of their customers.
CaseStack is known for several energy-saving solutions including, partnering with SmartWay, using warehouse solar panels, running biodiesel fleets, and their unique consolidation programs.
SmartWay is a voluntary and cost-free program that supports companies’ initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from freight supply chain transportation activities. CaseStack has been partnering with SmartWay since 2010 and each year their performance data is submitted and reviewed to qualify as a SmartWay partner. SmartWay implements its goals to lower freight carbon footprints by conducting analysis and research of freight impacts, engaging with freight experts, anticipating and responding to trends, developing strategic resources and communication strategies, and serving as an international model.
CaseStack also supports the use of solar energy to power warehouses. Seen here is Dan Sanker, CEO of CaseStack, with one of CaseStack’s warehouses in California which is completely powered by solar panels.
Partnering with carriers who use biodiesel fleets is another way CaseStack promotes sustainability. Biodiesel is a recycled, renewable resource and is great for engines and the environment. According to the Green Truck Association, “Its production and use results in 78.5 percent reduction in carbon monoxide emissions as compared to petroleum diesel.” Typically manufactured through vegetable oil, biodiesel can be made domestically using a recycling process and conventional equipment.
Along with these solutions, CaseStack implements a uniquely sustainable business model through their consolidation programs. According to Dan Sanker, “CaseStack’s solutions are based on a common-sense model – reduce waste and maximize efficiency by collaborating to create consolidation opportunities.” Consolidation allows for less empty space in trucks on the road, which in turn, removes fuel waste in the supply chain. Sanker gives the example, “If you have 600 trucks on the road, on average 16 of those could be nearly empty. When you combine 16 trucks into the one full truck, think about the waste you take off the road.” CaseStack consolidates by collaborating with consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies and through supply chain technology. These collaborative consolidation programs help CPG companies and retailers save money by increasing efficiency and reducing energy consumption.
