From Big to Small
By Catalina Munoz- Warehouse Account Manager
I started out in shipping about 9 years ago working for a HUGE ocean carrier; huge means over 150 years of experience, over 200 offices worldwide and thousands of employees. Almost a year ago, I joined CaseStack with about 80+ employees; now around 280+ employees. At the ocean carrier you were lucky if you ever had the opportunity to meet your VPs or even see your CEO’s face. Once in a while you would see a video come across with the CEO talking about the company’s latest acquisitions or outsourcing plans for the near future. A lot of people probably couldn’t even tell you his name.
At CaseStack, our CEO Dan Sanker greets you by name when he passes you in the halls, even if you were just hired a month ago. At my old job, if I had a concern, idea or question, I was directed to only go to my immediate supervisor. At CaseStack, I was surprised when I was instructed to just knock on Dan’s door because he loves to hear from everyone. I couldn’t believe it! It’s exciting to actually be part of a small and growing company where everyone knows everyone’s name and we are all trying to figure out the best way to do things TOGETHER!
At a big company, there is an army of staff to do each little thing, at Casestack, even Senior Management gets involved in grass root activities, which only helps them understand the business better. It feels like we have more of a team spirit here, where the “that’s not my job” syndrome is not really a problem. I hope that as we continue to grow that will not change.
For now, we can enjoy knowing everyone and getting involved in the different tasks! It’s exciting to have the chance to seek opportunities to create better structures and processes and discover new and better ways to do things with the people I work with. I’m happy to be a part of an ever-changing, ever-growing team where my comments and ideas are heard. I can’t wait to see what we will do tomorrow and the next day. It’s like watching a baby grow…
