Keep On Going!
By Angela Mayes – Warehouse Account Manager
While I was job searching for the “perfect” career, a recruiter asked me if I would like to go on an interview with CaseStack. I of course told him I didn’t know anything about being a Warehouse Account Manager, but he assured me that with my experience I would be a great fit there. So I trusted him, did my homework researching CaseStack, and went to my first interview on a Tuesday.
Slam Dunk!!! I had the most wonderful conversation with two managers that would later become my bosses. I was asked to come back the following Friday for a follow up interview with two more executives. Again, I did my homework, dressed impeccably, and left my house 45 minutes before the appointed time. As I was going to my car, I stepped down on the first step leading to my garage and proceeded to fall the entire flight of stairs. As my life was passing me by in slow motion, I completely scraped off my knuckles on my left hand. Finally, I made it down very bloody and a little dirty.
Two thoughts went through my mind – 1.) Go inside my house and clean up. (That would mean of course I would be late, which means I wasn’t going at all) or 2.) Keep going. So in that split second (and in a lot of pain) I got in the car and kept going. I dusted off the dirt and wrapped a tissue around my hand. I made it there 10 minutes early. I walked in with a bloody hand, but a clean suit and impressed my first interviewer. Frankly, I impressed myself since it would have been too easy to just stay home and try again another day. Needless to say, I got the job. Every time I look at my scarred hand a smile creeps on my face – a reminder to never look back and keep on going.
